Those that have since left Steam to establish their own games’ library application and launcher have since come back to the market leader. After spending the last few years exclusively to its storefront and the Epic launcher, Ubisoft is reportedly heading back to Steam just in time with the upcoming release of the final update for its latest Assassin’s Creed game, AC: Valhalla.
Ubisoft Games Are Back On Steam; Just In Time for The Final Update Of AC: Valhalla
As per the announcement, Ubisoft is bringing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla finally to Steam this December 6th. AC: Valhalla was one of the only Assassin’s Creed games to completely skip Steam, mind you.
According to Ubisoft, they are constantly evaluating how to bring their esteemed games to different audiences wherever they are while also providing a steady player ecosystem through their Ubisoft Connect service.
Joining AC: Valhalla to be released on Steam in the next few days are Anno 1800 and Roller Champions.
It is also worth noting that you would probably still need to install and use Ubisoft’s native launcher to play the games mentioned above, even if you already own them via Steam. While admittedly annoying, it is nothing new as older Ubisoft games currently on Steam use the same workaround.
Ubisoft’s move back to the Steam platform is a big shift for the popular publisher. As we may recall, back in 2019, Ubisoft called its choice to skip out on Steam a ‘business decision’ suggesting that Steam’s distribution model was unrealistic.
They instead decided to release their games on its launcher and Epic’s store where it would get a much larger cut of the sales.
With all that being said, it seems that things have changed drastically within Ubisoft for it to go back on its own words and fall back to the platform it once trashed.
