Learn how to trap every animal in Project Zomboids!

Project Zomboid is a post-apocalyptic survival game where you need to survive either alone or with friends against hordes of zombies. You need to build, craft, loot, farm and fish as you try to find a way to evade your inevitable death against the endless swarms of zombies.

This guide will tell you how to catch every animal in the game.

How to Catch EVERY Animal: Project Zomboid – Trapping Guide

Trapping is a survival skill present in the game where you can use traps to catch animals and butcher them to use as food. Increasing your trapping skills also increases your chance of catching those animals.

There are a total of 5 animals that you can catch in the game: Mouse, Rat, Bird, Squirrel and Rabbit. You will need bait and a trap to catch every animal and each animal requires different bait to attract them towards the trap.

How to Catch Mouse

The first animal that you can catch is the Mouse and you can catch him in the trailer park. You will need to use a mouse trap and some cheese to attract the mouse towards the trap.

If you don’t have cheese then you can also use Bacon Bits, Chocolate, Peanut Butter or some vegetables. After putting the bait, walk 75 tiles away from the trap as the traps don’t work if you are standing near them.

Wait for a day and then check on your trap, if you are lucky then you will be able to catch a dead mouse in the trap. Our trap caught a lot of mice and few rats and because we are in the Trailer Park, the trap attracted more mice than rats.

How to Catch Rats

Talking of Rats, if you are interested in attracting more rats instead of mice then you will need to visit the Farmland. You can see the current zone that you are in by looking at the Search mode window on the left.

Since Rats are similar to Mice, you will need to use a Mouse Trap to attract them and the bait requirements are also the same: Cheese, Bacon Bits, Chocolate, Peanut Butter or some vegetables.

After putting your bait, go far away from the trap and then wait for a day. Return back to the area where the traps are located and check them to find out whether you have caught any rats or not. We have caught more Rats than Mice since they are more common in Farmlands.

How to Catch Birds

If you are looking to catch some birds then you will need to head over to the Farmlands. You will need to use the Stick Trap and use some Insects, Bread, Worms, Cereal or Corn as the bait.

Walk away from the location of the traps and then wait for one day. Return back to the area and you will notice that the traps have dead birds inside them having different nutritional values. The higher your trapping skill, the better nutritional value the birds will have.

How to Catch Squirrels

The next animal is Squirrel and the best place to find them is Deep Forest. You will need to use either the Cage Trap, Snare Trap, Trap Box or Trap Gate as traps and Cereal as the bait. If you don’t have Cereals then you can use Cooked Popcorn, Peanuts or Peanut Butter as the bait.

Walk away from the trap after setting your bait since squirrels and rabbits are mostly active from 7 pm to 5 am. Return back to the area in the morning to check your traps and you will dead squirrels inside them.

How to Catch Rabbits

To catch the Rabbits, you will need to head over to the Deep Forest area. For the traps, you can use Cage Trap, Snare Trap, Trap Box or Trap Gate and Carrots as the bait. However, if you don’t have Carrots then you can also use Potatoes, Cabbages, Tomatoes, Corn, Banana, Lettuce, Peach and Apple.

Go far away from the traps after setting the bait and wait for a day since rabbits are active from 7 pm to 5 am. Return back to the area in the morning and check the traps for any dead rabbits.

That’s it, now go ahead and catch every animal in the game!
