Kick field goals or extra points for Madden 23

Maybe you learned the passing and moving mechanics in Madden, but don’t forget that both of them can’t succeed without kicking skills. The kicking is very crucial to keep you winning in a close game. Both, kick field goals and extra points require very similar actions to perform.  The main difference between them is the distance, as field goals can be as far as 50 plus yards away.

These are the following actions on how to kick a field goal or extra point:

  • Use the left stick to aim your kick towards the right or left, based on the kick trajectory on the screen. Push down the left stick if you want long-distance kicks.
  • Press X on PlayStation or A button on the Xbox controller to perform a kick.
  • Follow the curved kick meter. The line will move towards the top of the curve and back down.
  • Press X on PlayStation or A button on Xbox when the line is near the line near the top.
  • Wait for the line to come down near the X spot on the meter and press the X button again to perform the kick.

There are different things that might affect the kicking in Madden 23 including the wind direction in the game and of course your personal kicking skills.

How to perform a punt or kickoff

Performing a punt or kickoff has similar steps to kicking the field goal and extra point. This has additional options to choose from the particular kicks.

You can choose a Sky Kick, Normal, or Squid. The normal is self explanatory, the sky kick is one that will generally be higher in the air, giving the defense more time to pounce on the return man.

The squid is lower to the ground, and this is more useful to force the opponents to return the ball late in a game if there is a little time left on the clock.

These are the following actions for a kickoff or punt:

  • Use the left stick to aim your kick or punt. The aiming can be up and down, as well as left and right and diagonally.
  • You can choose the Sky Kick, Normal, or Squid depending on your desires.
  • Press X on PlayStation or A button on Xbox to begin the kick.
  • Follow the curved kick meter, a line will move towards the top of the curve and back down.
  • Press X on PlayStation or A button on Xbox when the line is near the line near the top.
  • Wait for the line to get down near the X spot on the meter and press the X on PlayStation or A button on Xbox to perform the kick.
