How to MOD Stardew Valley: Step By Step Guide

Adding mods in the game will allow you to customize its various aspects including new features and cosmetics such as the ability to show all the NPCs on the map or change the look of your home to the one from the Hobbit movie.

In order to install the mods in the game, you will need to first install two softwares called SMAPI and content Patcher.

You will need to download SMAPI from this website as it will help you manage and load all of your installed mods in the game. After the SMAPI file is downloaded, extract it onto your desktop and then run the file that works on your current operating system.

A command prompt window will now appear on your screen and will tell you the directory mods can be installed. It will also check whether a mod is updated or not whenever you run the game.

Once SMAPI is up and running, it will create a new file called “StardewModdingAPI” inside the game folder which you need. This can be generally found in:  c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe” %command%

Now open Steam on your computer then right-click on Stardew Valley and select the Properties option. In the general menu, scroll down below and paste the directory location of the StardewModdingAPI to ensure that the modded version will be launched when you press the Play button in Steam.

Next, you will need to download the Content patcher from this website. It will ensure that your mods do not conflict with each other and work properly. After downloading it, extract it into the Mods folder of the game’s directory. It can be usually found in this location: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods

After both these are installed, you can download any mod of your choice from the internet and extract the files into the Mod folders of the game. You can find all the currently popular and trending mods over at the Nexus Mods website.

Once you have downloaded a mod of your choice, just extract all of its content into the mods folder of the game and it will show up in the game. Just make sure that the mod you are downloading is compatible with SMAPI and Content Patcher tools.

Don’t forget to launch the modded version of Stardew valley by double-clicking on the StardewModdingAPI application in the game’s folder or by pressing the Play button on Steam once you have successfully redirected as instructed above.

That’s it, now you can easily install mods and enjoy them in Stardew Valley!
