How to Get Crosshair Over Any Game

Crosshairs are general guides placed in games to let you know where the center of the screen is. It allows you to know what and where your shots are going to hit. Although other external factors can affect the trajectory and location of your shot, the bullet still generally lands where your crosshair is if the shot is entirely accurate.

Now, some games don’t have good crosshairs to choose from, while others don’t even have crosshairs at all. This is why gamers have resorted to sticking a small piece of tape or a different sticky object on their monitor to act as a crosshair. This method is actually quite effective, but sometimes it does leave some adhesive residue on your monitor.

If you’re looking for an easier and software-based approach to adding a new crosshair, follow the steps below.

How to Get a Crosshair Over Any Game

There are two main ways to get a crosshair over any game. Both of these methods usually aren’t bannable and go undetected in most games. If you plan on using them on single-player or offline games, you shouldn’t run into any problems. However, if you want to use them in multiplayer or online games, keep in mind that you can get kicked from servers or get a warning if detected.

Check your Monitor Settings

The first thing you can do is simply go straight into your monitor settings. Some monitors that are advertised as “gaming monitors” have a built-in crosshair overlay tool. They can be labeled as “Screen Assistance” or simply “Crosshair Overlay.” Just make sure to look around your monitor’s settings to find out.

This usually cannot be detected at all since it’s built directly into the monitor. However, the crosshairs can be pretty big and lack customization options. They can definitely be helpful and only requires a few seconds to find and set up.

Custom Desktop Logo

Downloading the Custom Desktop Logo software

If you don’t have a monitor with a built-in crosshair overlay or you don’t like the ones on your monitor, we still have another solution for you. It requires the use of an application called “Custom Desktop Logo.” It has been around since the 2000s and is an old but reliable piece of software.

  1. Go to their website and download the “Custom Desktop Logo” software.
  2. The file you get should be in a Zip file. All you have to do is right-click on it and select “Extract Here” to get the contents.
  3. Open the extracted folder and double-click on the “CustomDesktopLogo.exe.” and press “Run.”
  4. There should be a logo that pops up somewhere on your screen, together with the Custom Desktop Logo icon that you can find on your taskbar. Right-click on the icon and go to the settings.
  5. From here, you can select the crosshair you want as long as it has a transparent background and is a PNG file.

Now that you have the Custom Desktop Logo software, you’ll need to find a crosshair that you like. Finding a crosshair is actually very easy. You can easily download one from websites such as clipart-library or flaticon.

Optionally, you can also create your own custom crosshair. You can use any photo editing software such as Affinity Photo, GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, or any other software you prefer. Just make sure to save it as a PNG file with a blank background.

Equipping the Crosshair

Once you already have a crosshair you like, save it inside a folder, no matter if you downloaded it or created it. Follow these next steps to find out how to equip and move the crosshair.

  1. Go back to the Custom Desktop Logo app and click on the “Change Image Folder” button.
  2. From here, just find the folder where you saved your crosshair/s and select it.
  3. Once you do this, the image displayed by the app should now be your chosen crosshair.

Moving and Resizing the Crosshair

Once you’ve selected the folder, the crosshair should appear on the lower right portion of your screen. Obviously, this won’t do you any good, so you’ll have to move it.

  1. Click on the “Location” tab.
  2. Under “Display Location” select “Centre.” You might also want to select “Primary Only” under the “Multi-Monitor Display Modes” if you have multiple monitors.
  3. To change the size, go to the “Size” tab.
  4. Here you should see a slider that adjusts the size of your selected crosshair according to the scale you choose.

Once you’re satisfied with the location and the size of your crosshair, there’s one final thing that you have to do. Disabling being able to grab and move it. You can sometimes accidentally click on the crosshair and drag it to another location. This can distract you and ruin your game. To disable dragging, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Custom Desktop Logo settings and go to the last tab named “Drop Folder.”
  2. From here, all you have to do is put a check on the “Drop Folder Mode,” and you should be good to go.

This completely disables movement of the crosshair, and you won’t be able to drag it anymore. If you want to change the location of the crosshair, you can either move it through the “Location” tab or disable the drop folder mode to drag it once again.

Congrats! You now know how to create and use your very own crosshair over any game you choose. Usually, the software goes undetected and is pretty safe for general gaming use. However, some games give you a soft ban or kick you from a server if they detect that you are using this software.

If you get kicked or soft banned, you just usually have to exit the software and stop using it for that specific game. There are still risks, and we don’t own any responsibility if you get banned or kicked from a server because of the software. Use the Custom Desktop Logo software responsibly.
