The developer of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red, confirmed earlier today that the game’s upcoming DLC main story expansion, Phantom Liberty, won’t be free like some players hoped it would be. Phantom Liberty is set to open up an all-new district in Night City alongside new story quests furthering the story of Cyberpunk 2077 and its main protagonists, V and Keanu Reeves’s Johnny Silverhand.
CD Projekt Red Confirms That The Upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 Expansion Won’t Be Free
CD Projekt Red has previously specified how they differentiate free DLCs and paid expansions for their games, such as Cyberpunk 2077. According to them, there is a clear distinction between the two – at least for them.
DLC is a smaller piece of content that they are willing to ship out for free, just as they did with their previous hit game The Witcher 3.
While Expansions are much bigger game contents, i.e. The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone expansions.
These are paid content, and once they announce something like that for Cyberpunk, gamers should already assume that they are churning out some cash to get it.
Pricing hasn’t been announced yet for the first and perhaps last expansion of Cyberpunk 2077. However, Radek Grabowski, the studio’s global PR director, noted that CD Projekt Red’s expansions are usually much cheaper than full-price games.
With that being said, it’s best to assume that the upcoming expansion would cost somewhere under $60.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty doesn’t have a specific release date yet but it is expected to launch sometime in 2023.
It is also worth noting that CD Projekt Red is also currently working on the full sequel of Cyberpunk 2077 as we speak.
