Call of Duty went big advertising its latest entry to the long-running FPS franchise, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, plastering massive 3D billboard ads in many parts of the world – most notably on the giant billboard in the middle of New York Times Square.
While Call of Duty is indeed one of the biggest franchises in the entire entertainment industry and such extravagant marketing is to be expected, what they did for the new game is truly noteworthy.
Huge 3D Billboard Ads Around The World – Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2
The latest, and perhaps most flashy ad for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, features two prominent characters included in the game, Gaz and Ghost.

The former starts the ad as he deploys a drone in the middle of the rain then quickly transitions to Ghost coming out of some tall grass wearing his iconic night vision goggles.
Considering that it is placed in the middle of the famous Times Square itself, it is still unclear how long the bombastic ad will remain running there. That being said, Activision has shown great interest in spending as much money as it can to push the game as aggressively as possible.
This dedication to try and get as much attention on the game is further expounded by a newly-released trailer that features huge celebrities, such as rapper Nicki Minaj. Notably, Call of Duty has also begun releasing its traditional Mountain Dew branded packaging.
On top of the bombastic marketing stunts, Activision also wants to try something new in how it plans to roll out the game. Unlike its previous titles, Activision intends to release the campaign mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 a week early rather than the customary multiplayer mode.
This gives players the chance to enjoy the game’s story first before even having the chance to dive into its multiplayer modes.

It is worth noting that the franchise has once opted to not include a campaign mode in their previous titles at all, so it’s indeed a bit surprising seeing their focus on it for this game.
Nevertheless, this move encourages players to at least check out the game’s campaign before getting into the nitty-gritty of the multiplayer mode.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 fully releases this October 28, 2022, on all consoles – current-gen and next-gen – as well as on PCs.
